Victims of terrorism speak out

At the first-ever international forum on supporting victims of terrorism, 18 survivors shared their compelling stories. Among them were a survivor of the US embassy bombing in Nairobi, a school-girl from Beslan, a rescue organizer in Bali, and relatives of victims of the UN Headquarters bombing in Baghdad, and of the World Trade Center in New York. Ingrid Betancourt, who was freed two months ago from seven years of captivity in Colombia, made an appeal to give international status to victims of terrorism. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who invited them to help their voices be heard, praised the victims as the "real heroes in the global struggle against terrorism" and their testimonies as the strongest argument why terrorism can never be justified.
