Israel challenges Iran's claim of peaceful nuclear programme

Israel's President Shimon Peres called for isolating the President of Iran, whose remarks at the UN, he said, bordered on anti-Semitism. He also disputed President Ahmadinejad's claim that Iran's nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.

"If this is the case, why do they invest so much money in missiles. A long-range missile without a nuclear warhead is meaningless. So why does a poor country -- and Iran is still poor -- build missiles?"

In response to a question about whether the Middle East peace process could be concluded this year, President Peres, said it will probably happen next year, but the negotiations will continue despite any changes in leadership in the countries.
