World leaders discuss Africa's development needs

-World leaders gather to discuss the challenges facing Africa in its efforts to fight poverty. The Chairman of the African Union, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania says Africa is disappointed that developed countries have not honoured their commitment to help the continent deal with its development challenges
UNEP presents an atlas of Africa's environment
-The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) presents Africa Atlas of Our Changing Environment, which shows changes that have taken place on the continent over a period of thirty years. UNEP's Programme Officer, Charles Sabukeera says the atlas is helping policy makers to take action to reverse the damage that has occurred in the environment.
Mediation plays crucial role in settlement of disputes
-The Security Council discusses the importance of mediation in the settlement of disputes, particularly in Africa which has been plagued by conflicts. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the United Nations does not claim monopoly in the resolution of conflicts.
