Countries might be falling further behind on meeting MDGs: G'77 and China
The Group of 77 developing countries and China warned Thursday that countries are not on track and might even be falling further behind on meeting most of the Millennium Development Goals.
Chairman of the Group of 77, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua and Barbuda, says the main shortcoming is with the implementation of the commitments."The main challenge to developing countries to fully implementing the commitments on the ground at the country level is the lack of financing and a more supportive internatational environment, indicating a significant failure of progress on MDG 8."
Millennium Development Goal 8 calls for the development of a global partnership for development.
Prime Minister Spencer says the Group of 77 and China proposes a process be set in motion to develop specific benchmarks and targets to properly measure the implementation of that goal.
