Equal sharing of responsibilities between men and women

Women: a weekly 14-minute news magazine that looks at issues affecting ~women around the world.

Experts discussed the causes of unequal sharing of responsibilities between men and women as well as gender roles and stereotyping at a recent meeting in Geneva in preparation for the March 2009 Commission on the Status of Women. Carolyn Hannan, Director of the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women, says the goal is to be able to influence member States to start thinking about this issue.

There's a Global Campaign to reach the health Millennium Development Goals

Three of the eight Millennium Development Goals launched in 2000 to put a major dent in poverty by 2015, are health related. The goals are to reduce child mortality, to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases and to improve maternal health. A further emphasis on achieving these goals was launched recently at the United Nations.

The "Say No to Violence" campaign gets help from clothes retailer Marshalls

The "Say No to Violence against Women" campaign was launched in November 2007 at the International Day to End Violence against Women. It's an internet-based advocacy instrument that encourages women and men to add their names to a call to make ending violence a priority for governments around the world.
