A look at the global economic crisis

The financial crisis that began in the United States now threatens to envelop the entire world. The crisis comes at the mid-point of the Millennium Development Goals target of 2015, and despite recent pledges of $16 billion to help meet those goals to reverse poverty, disease and mortality, there is concern that the effects of the crisis on the developing world will hamper their ability to improve the lives of their citizens. In this programme, Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, appeals to donors not to forget the most vulnerable and Jomo Kwame Sundaram, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development, explains that the UN warned of the crisis in annual reports, and offers ideas on what is needed to stabilize the world financial system.
