UN assesses bombing damage in Somalia
The United Nations has sent an emergency team to Hargeysa in Somalia to assess the situation and the damage and then decide on the next steps.
This follows the multiple bomb attacks in northern Somalia on Wednesday which included a suicide car bombing at the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP compound in Hargeysa, which killed 2 United Nations staff and seriously injured six others. The spokeswoman in Somalia Dawn Elizabeth Blalock tells UN Radio that they evacuated some staff that they were seriously and may also take out some others who are in need of counseling or further medical treatment.
We also asked her about the security situation in that part of Somalia
Somalia in general, the whole country is one of the most difficult places to work. If you have been following the trends there have been thirty aid workers, some of them UN staff, some of them NGO workers, some of them convoy drivers, some of them guards killed this year alone in the first two months of the year. So it has been quite challenging.
