UN convoy delivers aid to conflict-torn region of DRC

For the first time in a week United Nations convoy arrived in town of Rutshuru, in the area controlled by rebel fighters in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The convoy was escorted by troops of the mission in the country, known as MONUC. It is delivering badly needed supplies to tens of thousands of people who have been displaced by fighting there. Jaya Murthy, the spokesperson for UNICEF is in Goma, the capital of North Kivu. He told UN Radio's Patrick Maigua in Geneva that the situation at the moment is stable but tense in the town.
