WFP delivers food to thousands displaced in eastern DRC
05/11/2008
The World Food Programme (WFP) today began food distributions to more than 135,000 people displaced by recent fighting in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The deliveries will ease the current squeeze on food supplies in the city of Goma, resulting from fighting last week between rebel and government forces which temporarily cut off many key delivery routes.WFP says distributions will be made to six camps around Goma, and they include high-energy biscuits for malnourished children. The 10-day rations will go to all camps at the same time to prevent disturbances at the distribution sites.
