UN envoy condemns Baghdad suicide bombings

The top UN envoy in Baghdad has condemned Monday's double bombing in the Kasra district of Baghdad which killed dozens of innocent civilians and wounding scores more.

Special envoy Staffan de Mistura (photo) describes these 'detestable bombings' as "repugnant crimes aimed at re-instilling fear, distrust and division among the public just as Iraq prepares itself to assume political normalcy with the upcoming provincial elections,"

Reports say about 30 people have been killed in three separate suicide bombings in Baghdad.

This is Donn Bobb reporting for United Nations Radio.
