UN supporting Haitian authorities in rescue operations

The United Nations is continuing to support the national authorities in Haiti in the search for survivors of the school that collapsed on Friday.

The latest official numbers are 92 dead and 150 injured.

On Sunday, 42 children were sent home after getting their medical clearance.

Spokesperson for the UN mission in Haiti Sophie Boutaud-de la Combe says the UN police are continuing to provide crowd control in view of the large numbers of people who are still gathering at the site and who can impede the ongoing emergency operation.

"The military doctors of MINUSTAH are helping the Red Cross to provide medical care to the evacuated injured, and we have additional UNPOL involved to secure and facilitate the work of the emergency rescue team arrived on site during the night of Friday and Saturday for the French team, and on Saturday morning for the Americans."
