Too many people still lack access to technology: UN chief
Technology continues to spread fast. Yet, too many people lack access.~That's what Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the Governing Council of the International Telecommunications Union -ITU.
In a video message to the conference Wednesday, the secretary-general welcomed the ITU's commitment to "connecting the world."He also welcomed the efforts of the ITU to cut greenhouse gas emissions, develop standards and use e-environment systems that can speed up the global shift to a low carbon economy.
"Cybersecurity remains another critical challenge. With ore and more transactions being done online, predators, criminals and terrorists can take advantage. We have to protect against cyberthreats, especially when they target children."
Secretary-General Ban welcomed the ITU's "Child Online Protection initiative and urged all States to support it.
