NGOs insist more troops are needed in the DRC-As the crisis continues in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Security Council has been reviewing a request by the UN mission (MONUC) for an additional 3,000 troops. Several NGO's insist that MONUC needs reinforcement to effectively carry out its mission in the Congo.
WFP urgently needs donations to feed Zimbabweans
-The World Food Programme warns that it is running out of funds to continue feeding needy Zimbabweans. WFP spokesman Richard Lee says that the agency is planning to increase the number of people receiving food rations, but it is being forced to reduce the food it is currently providing.
Miriam "Mama Africa" Makeba Dies at 76
-South African music diva, Miriam Makeba passed away on Sunday, at age 76. Ms. Makeba used her music against apartheid and to advocate for freedom in her country. For nearly a decade she served as a goodwill ambassador for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in its campaigns to end hunger.
