Oscar winning actor Charlize Theron has become the latest United Nations Messenger for Peace. The 33 year old actor will focus on ending violence against women. UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha caught up with Ms. Theron and first asked her how she felt about her new appointment.

A 10 year-old-Yemeni girl escapes her arranged marriage

In 2008, Nujood Ali became the first child bride in Yemen to legally end her marriage. A child bride, you say? Well, the fact is that Yemen is full of child brides. It's believed that roughly half of Yemeni girls are married before they turn 18. Nanette Brown, Head of Communications at UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, explained why these girls married so early.

UNICEF condemns the ritual killing of an albino girl in Burundi

A six year old albino girl was found dead recently in Burundi in a killing linked to ritual medicine. Olalekan Ajia, UNICEF Communication Specialist in Burundi, explains what happened and what's being done to protect albinos.
