On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women a renewed commitment to ending abuse of women and girls

Women: a weekly 14-minute news magazine that looks at issues affecting ~women around the world.

On this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman presented more than 5 million signatures gathered as a result of the Say NO to Violence against Women Campaign to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. At the presentation, Mr. Ban and others reaffirmed their commitment to ending the worldwide abuse against women and girls.

A network to help child soldiers is launched in New York

Only 14 when she was abducted by rebels of the Lords Resistance Army, Grace Okallo managed to escape and now wants to help other young children suffering similar fates. So she has joined with other former child soldiers has formed a network to give a voice to children whose lives have been derailed by fighting. Now 28, Grace told UN Radio's Rocio Franco about her experience as a child soldier.
