UN expert welcomes Somalia agreement

A UN Human Rights expert has welcomed the signing of a power-sharing agreement in Somalia.

The agreement between the Transitional Federal Government and the Alliance for the Re-Liberation of Somalia, seeks to establish a unity government and an enlarged and inclusive parliament.

Dr. Shamsul Bari, independent expert on the Situation of Human Rights in Somalia, attended the signing ceremony which took place on Wednesday in Djibouti.

He has also applauded the conclusion of the High Level Committee on the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry and an International Court to address to address gross human rights and international humanitarian law violations.

According to Dr. Bari, "both decisions are indeed strong signals towards accountability and end of impunity" in Somalia.
