Doha Conference close to deal on Outcome Document

Negotiators at the international conference on financing for development taking place in Doha, Qatar, are finalizing a document to be adopted at the end of the meeting.

UN Radio's Donn Bob is there and sent this report.

In Doha, high-level negotiations are continuing between developing and developed countries on a final outcome document for the Follow-Up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Monterrey Consensus.

Delegates reconvened Monday afternoon after Sunday's session went through the night ending well after sunrise Monday morning.

During a brief break in the talks tonight, a confident Ambassador Byron Blake of Antigua and Barbuda, one of the lead negotiators for the Group of 77 developing countries and China, told UN Radio while progress is being made, it is slow.

"We are still in the process of finalizing the arrangements of the output of the conference but we have clearly dealt with all the major political issues so it's now a matter of finalizing the write-up on the text. But I think the main political issues which related to the follow-up and how we deal with the international financial crisis and so forth -those have now been resolved. So I think it's a matter now of sorting out so I think we have a result."

The conference is scheduled to end Tuesday evening.
