Ban Ki-moon is disturbed by threats to burn the Quran
08/09/2010
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he is deeply disturbed by reports of a small religious group which plans to burn copies of the Quran.
In a statement issued by his spokesman on Wednesday, Mr. Ban says such actions cannot be condoned by any religion.
He points out that such actions contradict the efforts of the United Nations and many people around the world to promote tolerance, intercultural understanding and mutual respect between cultures and religions.
The Florida-based religious group has threatened to burn the Quran on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.
