UN Secretary-General Ban is currently in the Middle-East getting a first hand look at the situation on the ground and meeting the political leaders in the region. Mr. Ban has made it clear that addressing the problems of the Middle East is a priority for him. Though violence continues in the region and the economic hardship for the Palestinians continues to be a source of worry; a number of other developments have provided what may be described as a “window of opportunity” to made the peace process forward. This edition of perspective sums up some of the latest views expressed in the Security Council about new possibilities for achieving last peace and stability in the Middle East.
