VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN: The UN Secretary-General has just released two separate reports which for the first time cover the full range and scale of violence against a majority of the world's population - a violence that is committed mostly behind closed doors and often socially approved. This program explores why there is so much resistance from both men and women and even governments to recognize that violence against women and children is a violation of human rights, that it is discrimination and that it is an illegal act that should be punished accordingly.

Secretary-General Designate Ban Ki-moon plans to resolve challenges facing the international community by using his experience "as a harmonizer" to find common ground among divergent views. In a joint interview with UN Radio and Dawn Daily of Pakistan, Mr. Ban Ki-moon promised to support the resumption of six-party talks to resolve the issue of the Democratic Republic of Korea's nuclear programme.
