The head of a new UN team which is investigating the most serious crimes perpetrated during Syria's brutal civil war, says that it's her job to bring those responsible for abuses closer to justice.

Former French judge Catherine Marchi-Uhel, who heads the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism, has already contacted Member States in a bid to work on potential prosecutions.

Ms Marchi-Uhel explained to Daniel Johnson how her office's work will complement that of the existing UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria.
