With conflict in Yemen grinding on, the health system and economy have collapsed, seriously jeopardizing "people's ability to survive".

That's according to the UN Resident Coordinator for the country, Jamie McGoldrick, who is in New York for a high-level event on Yemen, which was held on Friday in the margins of the UN General Assembly.

After more than two years of war, Yemen is facing the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with nearly 21 million people in need of emergency aid of protection.

Besides asking for continuing financial support and reiterating the importance of international humanitarian law, Mr McGoldrick told UN News it was essential to "just stop the war".

He began by giving Reem Abaza an update on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
