"Astonishing" improvements came about when five UN agencies joined forces in an integrated manner to help transform one impoverished valley in the Central Asian country of Tajikistan.

That's the lesson of working together on improving human security, and an indicator of what needs to be done to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, said the UN Resident Coordinator in the country, Pratibha Mehta.

She was speaking on the margins of a High Level meeting on the issue at UN Headquarters, earlier this month.

She said there was agreement that putting human security at the heart of the SDGs was the right approach if no-one is to be left behind.

Ms Mehta spoke to Liz Scaffidi about the lessons learned from Tajikistan's Rasht Valley.
