Two accomplished teenage sailors from the Caribbean are calling for stronger laws against dumping litter in the ocean.

Kathryn Christopher and Savana Assam are in the racing class at the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association where students are taught the importance of keeping the seas clean.

The UN is hosting a five-day global conference this week to draw attention to the need to protect the world's oceans and marine resources as outlined under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dianne Penn was on assignment in Trinidad and Tobago and asked Kathryn and Savana how they became hooked on sailing, which they described as "kind of a male-dominated sport."
