The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the "horrific terrorist attack" in Manchester in the United Kingdom, according to a statement released by his spokesperson.

Media reports say that the ISIL terrorist group claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that killed 22 attending a pop concert on Monday.

Ana Carmo reports.

UN chief António Guterres expressed his deep sympathy and solidarity to the people and Government of the United Kingdom following the terrorist attack in Manchester.

"Unjustifiable" is how he described the violence and called for those responsible to be brought swiftly to justice.

Back in March, four people died in London when a presumed terrorist drove a car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing two people, before crashing it outside the Houses of Parliament.
