An ancient trading route could help people to rethink ideas about migration or even conflict, according to an expert with the UN cultural agency, UNESCO.

Annick Thebia Melsan is a focal point for  UNESCO’s Silk Road Online Platform, dedicated to the sea and land networks which have connected east and west from prehistoric times to the present day.

She said because cultures and ideas also were exchanged along these routes, they can provide a new way of looking at some of today's global challenges.

Ms Melsan is in Baku, Azerbaijan, which is hosting the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, taking place through Saturday.

Jocelyne Sambira asked her about the importance of the online portal.
