Some 6,000 people, mostly women and children, have fled into Uganda after a recent attack on Pajok town in South Sudan, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has confirmed.

The UN received reports of fighting between Government troops and opposition fighters there last week and is trying to follow-up on reports of civilians killed in the area.

The majority of residents of Pajok are from the minority Acholi ethnic group.

Jocelyne Sambira has the story.
