Children bound for Europe "sell their bodies – their only currency"

Disturbing new details have emerged of the abuse suffered by children travelling from North Africa to Europe, on people trafficking routes through Libya. The findings by UN Children's Fund UNICEF show that three-quarters of youngsters said they had experienced violence, while one in two women and children reported sexual abuse – often many times, in different locations. Latest checks found well over 7,000 unaccompanied children in Libya, but UNICEF's Afshan Khan tells Daniel Johnson that the real figure is likely to be three times higher.

UNAIDS says "make some noise" for #zerodiscrimination

Discrimination in health care settings is forcing people with HIV and AIDS to "go underground," causing them to miss out on essential medical services. That's according to the Joint United Nations programme on HIV and AIDS, UNAIDS which says data from 50 countries shows that one in eight people with HIV reports being denied health care. UNAIDS is calling on people everywhere to show their support for a fair and just society last Wednesday, Zero Discrimination Day. The agency's Executive Director, Michel Sidibé, told Dianne Penn why we all should "make some noise" about it…

Global Festival of Ideas kicks off in Bonn

The first-ever conference that combining game playing and policy making got underway in the German city of Bonn on Wednesday. The Global Festival of Ideas for Sustainable Development aims to promote new thinking for a better world. A live simulation game lies at the heart of the event, with participants collaborating on ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a hypothetical country. The 17 SDGs seek to create a more just and equitable world by 2030. Reem Abaza spoke to the Lord Mayor of Bonn at the conference venue, Ashok Srid-haran.
