When it comes to the whole "action agenda" on sustainable development, "reality is catching up" with governments which fail to think long-term.

That's according to a senior UN Development Programme (UNDP) official for Latin America and the Caribbean, Matilde Mordt.

The UNDP Sustainable Development team leader was speaking at the recent Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas, which took place in Canada.

She said politicians are now more willing to have "serious conversations" about long-term resilience and sustainable development since the adoption of treaties such as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sendai Framework on reducing disaster risk.

Matthew Wells sat down with her in Montreal and asked how the whole agenda was tied together.
