Call for perpetrators of Istanbul terror attack to face justice: UN chief

The Secretary-General has condemned a terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey that happened during New Year’s celebrations.

Dozens of people were killed and injured when an unknown gunman reportedly shot at revelers before running away.

Members of the Security Council also released a statement earlier denouncing the “barbaric” attack.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres offered his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of Sunday’s terrorist attack in Istanbul.

He also expressed his solidarity with the Government and the people of Turkey and of those countries whose nationals were impacted.

According to media reports, many foreigners were among the dead.

Mr Guterres said he hoped the organizers and perpetrators of this “heinous” act will be quickly identified and brought to justice.
