Medical evacuations of hundreds of sick and wounded people from Aleppo in Syria could begin on Friday, the UN has said.

The development comes after the announcement of a temporary truce in the city between government forces and opposition militia.

Speaking in Geneva, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura welcomed the pause in fighting, but indicated that much more needs to be done to stop the violence for good.
