The "democratic aspirations" of the people Gabon should be respected in a legal challenge to a disputed presidential election.

The claim filed by the defeated candidate, Jean Ping, who lost the August poll by around 5,500 votes, has been made in the Constitutional Court.

Violence erupted on the streets of the capital, Libreville, following the result.

Jerome Longué has been speaking to Abdoulaye Bathily, the head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA).

He began by asking Mr Bathily for an update on the current situation.
