Attack targeting judiciary in Afghanistan condemned

A suicide attack on Wednesday in a suburb of the Afghan capital Kabul which killed eleven civilians and injured ten others has been condemned by the UN mission in the country, UNAMA.

The suicide attacker detonated the bomb next to a bus transporting employees of a provincial court.

The victims included six children.

Since the beginning of the year, UNAMA has verified 14 separate attacks targeting judges, prosecutors and judicial staff.

The outlawed Taliban group has claimed responsibility for half of those incidents.

Migration generating "new criminal opportunities"

An increase in migration across the world is generating "new criminal opportunities" particularly for migrant smugglers and human traffickers.

That's according to Yury Fedotov, the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

He was speaking at an event in Vienna focusing on the recently launched initiative 'Global Action against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants'.

The initiative aims to prevent trafficking and smuggling in 13 countries globally.

Mr Fedotov said that migrant children in particular have become "easy targets for abuse and exploitation."

A feature documentary that explores the impact of a child's early environment on their cognitive, social and emotional development, is to be released worldwide on streaming platforms on 1st June.

The Beginning of Life, which is supported by the UN Children's Fund, UNICEF and features supermodel Gisele Bündchen was filmed in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Italy, Kenya and the United States

It was created in response to advancements in neuroscience that uncover the crucial role that the early years of children's lives play in determining their futures.
