The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is in "dire need of resources" and help to "support and sustain" its work.

That's according to UN chief Ban Ki-moon, speaking at a meeting on the sustainability of UNRWA on Wednesday.

The Secretary-General said that the agency, which serves a community of 5.2 million, now faces a deficit of US$81 million.

The problems are especially acute for more than 500,000 Palestine refugees trapped inside Syria's brutal civil war.

Jérôme Longué spoke to Pierre Krähenbühl, UNRWA's Commissioner General.
