Continued fighting in Aleppo has created new no-go areas and risks turning part of the Syrian city into a besieged zone where aid convoys cannot operate, the UN warned on Wednesday.

Jan Egeland, chairman of a task force on humanitarian aid, said that "nothing was more important" than an end to the fighting in the country, which has seen more than five years of war.

Since the start of the year, the UN and its partners have delivered aid to nearly 780,000 people in besieged and so-called hard-to-reach areas.

Here's Daniel Johnson in Geneva.
