South Sudan's First Vice President-designate has arrived in the capital Juba on a UN plane amid intermittent fighting in several parts of the country, the UN peacekeeping chief has confirmed.

Riek Machar's return will enable the formation of a Transitional Government of National Unity and the full implementation of the peace agreement.

His departure in December 2013 after being accused of attempting a coup against President Salva Kiir, triggered ethnically targeted clashes.

Jocelyne Sambira has the details.
