Giraffada: fabled account depicts Palestine life through eyes of kid

Giraffada

A fictional account of a Palestinian veterinarian's effort to save his zoo's remaining giraffe by smuggling a companion giraffe from Israel has been told in the movie, Giraffada.

The award-winning production's title is a cross between "giraffe" and "intifada" or Palestinian "uprising," the director Rani Massalha said during a UN screening in New York.

The son of the veterinarian, who has a special bond with the two giraffes in the zoo, is heartbroken when the male giraffe dies in an air raid.

Speaking to Reem Abaza, Massalha says the story is told through the eyes of the 10-year old, depicting what it's like to live in a war-zone at that age.
