Candidates for the role of Secretary-General of the United Nations are due to appear at what has been described as a "job interview in front of the whole world."

Eight people, four men and four women have been proposed by their national governments for the position of what is often called the world's top diplomat.

A woman has never been Secretary-General.

From Tuesday the candidates will appear before the 193 Member States of the UN to explain why they are the best person for the job.

Daniel Dickinson has been speaking to Dan Thomas the Spokesperson of the President of the General Assembly under whose auspices the process is taking place.

Mr Thomas began by explaining what's going to happen.
