Women in South Sudan continue to fight for their rights in what is considered "one of the worst" regions in the world to be a woman.

Kasumi Nishigaya, Chief of gender affairs for the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), describes the situation there as "mixed" although she's hopeful it will improve.

South Sudan currently has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world but is "making progress," according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Ms Nshigaya spoke to Sebit William ahead of International Women's Day on Tuesday.
