Syria truce violations are being contained, says UN Special Envoy

Syria's cessation of hostilities is fragile but holding despite several flare-ups, the UN negotiator who's trying to secure peace in the country, said Thursday.

Six days into the truce between the majority of warring parties, Staffan de Mistura said the level of violence has fallen, adding: "just ask the Syrians."

And looking ahead to peace talks set for March 9 in Geneva, the UN Special Envoy said that it was important for all those invited to understand that the date was "not open-ended".
