Investigation underway in Mali as UN peacekeeper kills colleagues

An investigation is underway in Mali after a UN peacekeeper shot and killed two colleagues.

A third peacekeeper was injured.

The UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) said the incident happened on Saturday at the Tessalit camp in the Kidal region in the north of the country.

The suspect has been taken into custody.

The UN Blue Helmets are stationed in Mali to support peace and reconciliation efforts.

4000 people displaced in Myanmar following conflict

Armed conflict that erupted in early February in Myanmar's northern Shan State has displaced an estimated 4,200 people in the area, according to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Since 2011, more than 240,000 people have been displaced in Myanmar, mainly in Shan State and in the coastal state of Rakhine.

Here's the UN Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric.

"Our humanitarian colleagues are following up with local partners for more information. State authorities, local groups, the Myanmar Red Cross Society, as well as the UN and international NGOs, have provided relief items and services at displacement sites"

195,000 families in Viet Nam lack sufficient water

An estimated 195,000 families in Viet Nam do not have sufficient water to meet their daily needs, according to the UN.

Severe drought and salt intrusion in the Mekong Delta is affecting water supplies in 39 out of 63 provinces in the country.

UN Spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric again.

"According to the authorities, 159,000 hectares of rice paddy have also been lost, amounting to an economic loss of more than US $10 million, an additional 500,000 hectares are at risk of being lost by the middle of this year."

Some 10 provinces have declared a state of emergency.
