Global leaders must step up to beat poverty by 2030, the head of the UN development programme (UNDP) has urged.

Helen Clark, the first woman to hold the top job, made the call as the organization marked its 50th anniversary.

Ministers from across the world are meeting at the UN in New York on Wednesday to chart a course for the future of global development.
