30,000 foreign terrorist fighters actively engaged with ISIL

That's according to the UN Secretary-General's very first report on the threat of ISIL to international peace and security. The group occupies large areas of Syria and Iraq and continues to brutalise local populations. Jocelyne Sambira reports.

World can be "re-inspired" to work for humanitarian causes

The international community needs to be "re-inspired" ahead of a key summit due to be held in Istanbul in May, the head of UN humanitarian affairs has said. Some 125 million people around the world need some type of assistance, a number which has continued to grow in recent years. The World Humanitarian Summit will bring together governments, international organizations, the private sector and people affected by humanitarian crises to decide how best to meet the growing needs. The UN’s Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator is Stephen O’Brien. Stephanie Coutrix asked him why this summit is so important.

Jerome Longue, has witnessed many crises in the course of his 18-year career. He recently published a paper on the role of radio stations set up, or attached to, UN peacekeeping operations. To mark World Radio Day and the 70th anniversary of UN Radio, our colleague Jerome shared some of his reflections with Jocelyne Sambira.
