Radio is playing a key role in keeping people safe in the Sudanese region of Darfur, according to the UN mission there, UNAMID.

Insecurity and civil conflict has afflicted Darfur for more than a decade leaving some 300,000 people dead; at least two million have fled their homes fearing for their life.

The UN radio station for the region, UNAMID Radio, is helping to keep those people informed on a wide range of issues including the dangers of unexploded mines and hygiene tips for displaced women.

Jumbe Omari Jumbe has sent this report from Darfur.
