Religious, traditional and local leaders are coming together to encourage local communities to abandon the practice of female genital mutilation or FGM.

Also known as female circumcision or cutting, the procedure poses a serious threat to the health and lives of young girls.

It's also recognized internationally as a fundamental violation of human rights.
