All parties that signed onto peace deal in Mali responsible for lasting peace

All parties that signed onto June's peace agreement for Mali are responsible for bringing lasting peace to the country, according to the UN Security Council.

The 15-member body was updated on the situation in Mali by the head of UN peacekeeping on Tuesday.

Following the briefing, the Council urged parties to the peace deal to "engage constructively" and "in good faith to fully and effectively implement the agreement without further delay".

Mali was plunged into conflict nearly four years ago due to fighting between the government and rebel forces.

Data on crop harvest "crucial" in South Sudan

The need for quality data on crop harvests is "crucial" in South Sudan, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

With the country currently struggling with a large-scale food crisis amid ongoing civil conflict , the FAO has launched an intensive crop and harvest assessment training exercise.

The training targets government officers and field staff from non-government organizations. The goal is to strengthen the information available on agriculture and food security around South Sudan.

The FAO has said that having better data will allow for a more precise analysis of the food situation in the country and will facilitate more informed decision-making on all levels.
