Secretary-General condemns airstrike on MSF clinic in Yemen

The UN Secretary-General has called for a "prompt, effective and impartial investigation" into airstrikes which destroyed a mobile health clinic in Yemen run by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Seven people were reportedly injured in the incident which took place on Wednesday in the city of Taiz.

Ban Ki-moon has condemned the strikes and underscored that medical facilities and medical personnel are explicitly protected under international humanitarian law.

The UN chief noted that an MSF hospital in Sa'ada province was hit by airstrikes in late October, an incident he had also condemned.

Make human rights part of climate change talks, says UN expert

World leaders meeting at the UN climate change conference in Paris are being encouraged to include a human rights perspective in their deliberations.

The appeal comes from John Knox, a UN expert on human rights and the environment.

He said as every State taking part in the negotiations belongs to at least one human rights treaty, they must ensure their actions comply with these obligations.

He added that governments must also consider human rights law in actions to adapt to climate change.

More than 150 world leaders are attending the conference in hopes of agreeing a universal deal to limit global temperature rises to below two degrees Celsius.

Partnerships promotes ICT access for persons with disabilities to access

The UN cultural agency, UNESCO, and the Nippon Foundation, a Japanese non-profit organization, have partnered to support the right of persons with disabilities to access information and communications technologies (ICT).

The two sides have signed an agreement aimed at showcasing ICT solutions that contribute to the full empowerment of women and men with disabilities, among other goals.

The agreement also foreshadows a possible Art Festival for disabled artists linked to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games that will be held in Tokyo in 2020.

It also includes training and raising awareness about disability issues as well as the effective application of inclusive ICTs, for example by teachers, media and policy and decision-makers.
