International concern continues to mount over Burundi, where a months' long political crisis has led to the deaths of hundreds of people and forced thousands to flee to neighbouring countries.

The situation began in April after President Pierre Nkurunziza sought a contested third term.

The UN's human rights chief earlier this week warned of the possibility of genocide while the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is expressing concern about reports of incitement to violence against opposition groups.

Cristina Silveiro has been speaking to IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong who's urging Burundi's parliamentarians to "step up to the plate" and encourage dialogue.
