Somalia's decision to ratify a UN treaty on children's rights will reignite global commitment to make the world better for children.

That's according to Marta Santos Pais, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence against Children.

Somalia will join more than 190 countries who have signed the 1990 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which seeks to protect youngsters from discrimination and ensure their overall well-being.

Cristina Silveiro caught up with Ms Santos Pais prior to the ratification ceremony at the UN on Thursday.
