Secretary-General expresses “deep sadness” over Russian plane crash

The UN Secretary-General has expressed sadness over the crash of a Russian plane in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Saturday.

The Airbus 321 was travelling from Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg when the incident occurred.

Dianne Penn reports.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed "deep sadness" on learning about the crash, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson.

All 224 passengers and crew on board the plane were killed.

Mr Ban has sent his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of the Russian Federation.
